Stockings were always the first thing that we opened in our house. I admit, my mother still fills stockings for me and my sister (…and our husbands) and they’re still my favourite thing about Christmas morning.
The problem with stocking stuffers is that it’s far too tempting to grab cheap and wasteful items to fill the space. I’ve learned that the key to a great stocking is to avoid dozens of junky items and choose 5 or 6 thoughtful and useful gifts instead. I’ve put together some of my favourite picks that I’ll be using for my sister’s and friends’ stockings this year.
1. Apiecalypse Now! Vegan Shortbread
Shortbread is one of my favourite Christmas treats and Apiecalypse Now! makes a great local, vegan and organic version in multiple flavours. I prefer the classic or the cranberry almond.
2. Pela Phone Case
Phone cases are one of those products that everyone needs but happen to be incredibly wasteful. The Pela phone case is an amazing Canadian product that is 100% compostable. Their eco-friendly cases are made from plant materials and they ditch all of the unnecessary packaging.
3. Saje Essential Oils
Almost any product from Canadian company, Saje is an excellent option for stockings. All of their beauty and wellness products are made from 100% plant-based, natural and renewable resources and never tested on animals.
4. Sweet Hart Kitchen Desserts
You can’t go wrong with lots of sweets. For a healthier option, try some of the delicious treats from Toronto’s Sweet Hart Kitchen who make raw, no-bake, vegan and gluten-free desserts.
5. Pacifica Eye Pencil
Pacifica natural makeup is 100% vegan and cruelty-free and comes in post-consumer, recyclable packaging. The company aims to have zero product-manufacturing waste in the near future.
